B’Neen, currently in residency at The Star (previously The Star & Garter) is slinging out a fantastic mix of Middle Eastern and North African inspired plates that are even more delicious than they look, and they look pretty fuc&!ng good!
The incredibly tender, chunky Lamb Ribs with pomegranate molasses, and the North African spiced chicken thighs, both cooked over coals on the bincho grill were the standouts. Bags of flavour with gentle smokiness – The kind of dishes you immediately want to reorder.
Whipped Labneh topped with tender charred and braised leeks, and Confit Garlic Hummus topped with braised chickpeas and house chilli crisp are essential dips for the table, with some grilled Mamoosh pitta on the side, brushed with olive oil and za’atar.
Lamb Arayes – Mamoosh pitta, generously filled with spiced lamb then grilled, and served with a confit garlic dip is another very solid dish. Batata Harra (crispy spiced potatoes) tossed with fresh herbs and chilli, with a confit garlic dip on the side are dangerously addictive, and the lightly battered Tipaza Fried Squid was excellent too, served with olives, cucumber and lemon mayo.
B’Neen is run by super lovely husband and wife team, Sarah & Salim, and The Star is an especially good venue when the sun’s out and you manage to grab a seat out the front.
