Petit Pois is a French restaurant located in the heart of The Lanes in Brighton. Just off the seafront and run by husband and wife team, David & Ivana, Petit Pois specialises in classic French cuisine and offers a very high level of cookery and exceptional value for money.
Snails swimming in garlic and parsley butter are my go-to as a starter but don’t overlook the comforting soupe a l’oignon gratinée (French onion soup), served with chunky croutons with grilled Comté.
Seafood is delivered fresh every morning and the Bouillabaisse of local fish, shellfish, samphire, rouille and croutons is so epic I even made a YouTube video about it but tbh, I think I might have a new fave in the Hake with mussels, new potatoes, spring vegetables, samphire, and a beautiful smoked fish velouté. Stunning.
Highly recommend the Trio of Crème Brûlées w/ madeleines to finish (plum & armagnac gets my vote), alongside an Assiette de Fromages with chutney, grapes, celery, crackers, fruit toast and your choice of cheese. We went classic with our choices of Roquefort and Comté but also tried the delicious Époisses – a pungent soft cow’s milk cheese, with its rind washed in brandy.
Petit Pois is fantastically consistent and always offers great value for money, especially for the quality of produce and cookery.
