The Crazy Goose, the latest venue from the Black Rock group (which also includes Burnt Orange and Tutto amongst others) is a modern dining room serving up classic comfort food. It is very stylish, very welcome, and very good.
We came for the Slow-cooked Beef Cheek & Bone Marrow Pie but ended up trying quite a few other bits too, with the Sussex Lamb Tartare w/ padron peppers, tonnato, and Jerusalem artichoke crisps being the stunning highlight. I couldn’t stop going back for more. Absolute banger.
The pie itself lived up to the hype I’ve heard going around, and is almost certainly the best pie in town – It might even be the best I’ve ever had. It’s a proper pie too, with an indulgent, rich filling, fully enclosed in buttery shortcrust pastry, rather than one of those BS puff pastry topped pies.
Seriously good Creamy Mash w/ a drizzle of gravy, and lovely Grilled Brassicas w/ confit garlic on the side were the perfect accompaniments.
I didn’t have space for dessert but managed to find enough room to try the Chocolate & Hazelnut Profiterole. Arguably too rich not to share but absolutely delicious.
Very keen to return for The Crazy Goose’s set lunch menu, which offers two courses for a very reasonable £20 or three for £24.
